Full-time Faculty Experience

Instructional Specialist – Teaching (Associate Faculty), Dallas College Richland Campus, Dallas, TX | Oct 2017 – Present

  • Teaching college-level English to speakers of other languages as part of the Richland Campus American English and Culture Institute (AECI), an accredited intensive English program for international students.
  • Additional duties include further engaging students through one-on-one tutoring, maintaining regular weekly office hours, leading professional development workshops, facilitating extracurricular workshops for students, and coordinating with co-teachers as part of a learning community.
  • Member of the ESOL Program’s Assessment Initiative, which involves conducting research, holding regular professional development sessions for faculty, running program-wide exam analyses, linguistic tagging and analysis of student responses, and supporting the program’s implementation of relevant pedagogical research.
  • Member of the ESOL Program’s Grammar Curriculum Review Committee and its associated Research Subcommittee, tasked with a full overhaul of grammar instruction.

Linguistics Experience

  • Annotation, description, elaboration, and editing of elicitation data and dictionary entries for forthcoming Ute language dictionary.
  • Consulting on pedagogical matters for forthcoming Ute language-learning platform.

International Teaching Experience

Lead ESL Teacher, Field Education, Chengdu, China | October 2014 – November 2015

  • Teaching up to 10 students per class in a year-long, context-rich environment as a lead international teacher.
  • Recruiting, training, and mentoring new international instructors and assisting as they adapted to life in China.
  • Interfacing with clients in English and Chinese to support student learning and supporting international teachers in similar interactions.
  • Developing, revising, and internationalizing curriculum according to both Chinese and American standards.
